The Strange Way to Get Your Creativity Back
If you want to improve your creativity or, productivity when it comes to writing music, you might just be moving in the wrong direction. Let me explain.
We all want to be creative 100% of the time, but sometimes our brain just doesn’t comply.
If you’re anything like me (ie. human) you’ve had many experiences where you sit in front of the computer ready to write and just you feel paralysed.
Sometimes it’s the feeling like you can’t come up with any good ideas.
Sometimes you feel overwhelmed by the whole process.
Sometimes you just don’t know where to start.
Maybe you try to power through but you feel like you’re going nowhere.
Chances are, you need to be doing LESS not more.
You might see this as a self-contradiction. Wasn’t I saying a couple months ago to try and push through these phases?
The difference is, in that email I was talking about being so close to having the right solution, but not quite. In that case, yes keep pushing.
In this case, where you feel too disheartened or overwhelmed to start, it might be time to start having fun again!
I recently got a comment on one of my videos about playing guitar for fun again, and I realised I couldn’t remember the last time I played guitar for fun!
No wonder it’s hard to write!
So a couple days ago I sat down and played some of my favourite songs on guitar for the first time in years and I felt that sense of passion and inspiration start to come back.
I didn’t write anything there and then, but my mind was racing with ideas later that evening.
So the big takeaway? If you’re like me, you might have forgotten along the way that this is supposed to be fun!
So this weekend maybe sit down with a beer and play through some of your favourite songs, and see if that helps bring your creativity back.
